A Chinese Lafayette High School honor student was seriously brutalized in the schoolyard by a group of teenagers. Infuriated, more than three hundred residents united together and formed the United Chinese Association of Brooklyn to defend our human rights. The organization was commonly called UCA. |

Perpetrator apprehended. UCA and State Assemblyman William Colton accompanied victim on the first hearing trial to assure a fair trial. At least two UCA representatives attended ongoing trials with victim until the perpetrator was eventually convicted in September 2004. |

Another Lafayette High School Asian student was seriously brutalized inside school. UCA, teamed with State Assemblyman and Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), held a meeting with more than thirty students to uncover numerous school administrative wrongdoings. |

Held a press conference to proclaim Lafayette High School・s administration deliberately tolerated violence against Asian students. Attendees included Channel 5 and numerous local news media. |

United States Department of Justice・s press release declared that Lafayette High School deliberately discriminated against Asian students. |

UCA, teamed with REAL (Restore Excellence At Lafayette), a neighborhood organization, protested in front of Lafayette High School to denounce the school・s mismanagement and demanded its principal to step down. |

Lafayette High School principal announced his retirement. Interim principal and assistant principal, State Assemblyman William Colton and his staff, and UCA president Steve Chung held a successful meeting to share idea/vision to improve the school. |
