One of UCA's continuous goal is that the students at Lafayette High School
not only excel in their study but also be united and be involved in the
community. This newly formed Lion Dance Team between UCA and the students
is another step toward this goal.
The ceremony took place on February 2, 2006. It was the team's great
honor to have State Assemblyman William Colton to "light the lion's eyes"
which is a traditional procedure to officially mark the birth of a Lion
Dance Team. Lion Dance is a difficult art. It requires great strength
and skill and thus much practice from the teammates. The team will
practice regularly. This is an opportunity for the students to foster
closer relationship and develop teamwork skills. The Lion Dance is a popular
event for celebrating various things such as the Lunar New Year and opening of
new businesses. There will be ample opportunity for the team to perform
and get involved in the community.
