2006 Lunar New Year Lion Dance Parade to Greet Bensonhurst Community
March 11, 2006
Saturday
Bensonhurst, Brooklyn
The Lion Dance is a traditional way of celebrating the Lunar New Year in Chinese
culture. It adds much excitement to the celebration of this important holiday
and is considered necessary for bringing in good luck for the new year. On
Saturday March 11th, this traditional event was brought to the Bensonhurst community.
The organizers included UCA, State Assemblyman William Colton, students and teachers
from Lafayette High School, and the Civil Service Aide. The professional "Ng Wai
Hong" Lion Dance Team was invited to perform. Together, they battled the frigid
weather and paraded through the streets of Bensonhurst with a fantastic Lion Dance.
The students and teachers from Lafayette High School gave much assistance in this
event. Recently, they formed a Lion Dance Team together with UCA. We look
forward for their performance in the future lunar new years.
